The Upcoming CYDES 2020 Is A Really Big Deal
Spread over three days at a renowned venue in Malaysia’s scenic Langkawi Island, the very first CYDES 2020 promises to become the region’s largest and most prominent security conference for the IT sector. The main selling point for CYDES 2020 is its “integrated” layout where participants from government and the private sector intermingle under one commodious roof; the venue being the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre from March 24 until 26. The organizers Alpine Services Group expect as many as 300 exhibitors and visitor turnout in the high five digit range. 21st Century Asian Arms Race (21AAR) is a media partner for CYDES 2020.
Cybersecurity events might appear commonplace in ASEAN capitals today but there are still some niches that are either barren or underserved. While hacker-centric gatherings and technology conferences are frequent enough in metropolises like Bangkok and Singapore these are often very short-lived; leaving a diverse and fast growing market deprived of a holistic and reliable information security show. This is what CYDES 2020 wants to achieve: a large-scale event where the “cyberscape” comes alive in Malaysia’s premier tourist spot. Langkawi, after all, is also the address for the Asia-Pacific’s most prestigious aerospace expo.
Registration for CYDES 2020 is ongoing. Professionals involved in any of these five key “focus zones” are encouraged to join:
- Critical National Information Infrastructure
- Cyber Crime
- Cyber Defense
- Cyber Security
- Cyber Terrorism
Billed as “not another defense expo,” the team behind CYDES 2020 are delivering a high impact show bringing together the worlds of military-grade cyber and enterprise security. The official hosts are Malaysia’s National Security Council (NSC) together with the defense ministry, home affairs ministry, and the communications and multimedia ministry. The deep involvement of the Malaysian government is critical to the show’s success. CYDES 2020 is also serving as a platform for the National Cyber Security Strategy whose scope invovles 100 different action plans.
The scope of activities within CYDES 2020 fall under three broad areas. First is a high tech exhibition where product releases and demos are exposed to a global audience. Second is a variety of smaller B2B forums and workshops where fresh opportunities can be explored. Third is the delegate experience for regional VIPs who get exclusive access to the latest trends in the world of information security. To incentivize participation CYDES 2020 welcomes companies who operate in these categories:
- Security vendors who cater to government agencies.
- Military industries who have cybersecurity products or services.
- Companies whose products are geared towards protecting connected devices and the IoT.
The size and variety of CYDES 2020 is its main attraction. The organizers arranged a packed schedule where visitors can go about their business and still enjoy themselves. For example, a “VVIP” lounge is available for the duration of show where guests are invited to “unwind in opulence.” Other treats are a “VIP luncheon” for ironing out deals over sumptuous meals. Beyond the luncheon is a separate “VIP dinner” and if that isn’t enough, CYDES 2020 has casual golf outside the show proper. Red carpet events are part of the schedule too and sponsors may enjoy unprecedented mileage in these rarefied occasions.
CYDES 2020 does offer an attractive menu for sponsors who want targeted exposure during the show. Serious inquiries should be directed to:
